Haemorrhoids are swelling and inflammation of the haemorrhoidal cushions in the anal and rectal area. They present with painless bleeding during bowel movements, itching, a burning sensation, prolapse of tissue, or pain if a clot forms.
How we approach it
Assessment is made with a clinical and digital rectal examination, and sometimes proctoscopy. Treatment includes conservative measures, topical treatments or, where indicated, minimally invasive in-office laser treatment.
