Endocrine gland surgery covers specialised procedures on the thyroid and parathyroid glands. These procedures are recommended when medication is not enough, when malignancy is suspected, or when hormonal disturbances affecting your quality of life are identified.
The main procedures
- Thyroidectomy (total or partial): Removal of all or part of the thyroid gland. Indicated for suspicious nodules, thyroid cancer, pressure symptoms (difficulty swallowing or breathing), or uncontrolled hyperthyroidism (e.g. Graves’ disease).
- Parathyroidectomy: Surgical removal of the overactive parathyroid gland (one or more) in cases of primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism, to restore blood calcium levels.
