Polypectomy is the safe, painless removal of polyps — small, localised growths on the lining of the bowel — carried out directly during colonoscopy. We use modern, high-precision endoscopic instruments, so the patient is cleared of potentially dangerous changes in a single session, with no need for separate surgery or a second appointment.
Why polypectomy matters
- A vital preventive measure: Although most polyps are naturally benign, certain types (known as adenomatous polyps) can, over the years, progress to malignancy. Removing them early is the single most effective way to prevent colorectal cancer.
- Mandatory histological examination: Every polyp that is removed is always sent for specialised laboratory (histological) analysis, which determines the exact timing of your next check-up.
How the procedure is carried out
- At the same time as colonoscopy: Removal is carried out seamlessly, using specialised thin instruments (such as diathermy snares) passed through the endoscope.
- Completely painless: As colonoscopy and polypectomy are carried out under light sedation, you feel no discomfort whatsoever.

- GESY beneficiaries: Polypectomy is covered and provided as usual to beneficiaries of the General Healthcare System, as part of the relevant endoscopic examinations.
- Private care: The examination and polyp removal are also offered privately for non-GESY beneficiaries, overseas residents, or patients who want immediate scheduling.
