Barrett’s oesophagus is a precancerous change in which the normal lining of the lower oesophagus is replaced by abnormal tissue, due to long-term exposure to acid — a consequence of chronic gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It often causes no symptoms of its own beyond those of severe reflux.
How we approach it
Our approach includes direct, high-resolution endoscopic imaging during gastroscopy, taking multiple targeted biopsies for histological staging, and regular surveillance at set intervals.
