The instructions below are general. You will receive personalised instructions when scheduling your examination — always follow those.

Preparing for a gastroscopy

A gastroscopy examines the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. Correct fasting is essential.

  1. 1Fast (no food) for at least 6 hours before the examination.
  2. 2Avoid liquids for at least 2 hours before the examination.
  3. 3Tell us about any medication you take, especially anticoagulants or diabetic medication.
  4. 4If you receive sedation, arrange for someone to accompany you.

Preparing for a colonoscopy

For a reliable colonoscopy, the bowel must be clean. You will be given a prescription for a special cleansing solution.

  1. 1Follow a low-residue diet in the days before the examination, as advised.
  2. 2Take the bowel-cleansing solution according to the instructions you are given.
  3. 3Fast from solid food for the period indicated before the examination.
  4. 4Tell us about any medication you take and arrange for someone to accompany you.

GESY — General Healthcare System

The clinic participates in the General Healthcare System (GESY). Beneficiaries can be served following a referral from their personal doctor.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
For a visit through GESY a referral from your personal doctor is usually required. For a private visit no referral is needed. Contact us and we will guide you.
Is a gastroscopy or colonoscopy painful?
Examinations are performed with mild sedation to make them as comfortable as possible. You will receive detailed instructions before and after the examination.
How long does an endoscopic examination take?
The examination itself usually takes a few minutes, but please allow extra time for preparation and recovery after sedation.
Can I drive after the examination?
If you receive sedation, you must not drive on the same day. Please arrange for someone to accompany you.
How do I prepare for the examination?
