Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic condition in which stomach fluids flow back (reflux) into the oesophagus, irritating its lining. It usually presents with persistent heartburn, acid regurgitation, difficulty swallowing and, at times, a chronic cough or hoarseness.

How we approach it

Our approach includes clinical assessment, lifestyle and dietary changes, and medication (proton pump inhibitors). In resistant or atypical cases, advanced diagnostic testing is carried out — gastroscopy, oesophageal manometry, or 24-hour pH-impedance monitoring — to accurately document the condition before any definitive decision is made.
