Unexplained digestive bleeding is blood loss from any part of the gastrointestinal tract, leading to iron-deficiency anaemia of unknown cause. It presents with fatigue, paleness, dizziness, blood in the stool, or black (tarry) stools.
How we approach it
A complete endoscopic assessment of the upper and lower digestive tract is carried out (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) and, where needed, advanced methods for the small bowel are used, such as capsule endoscopy.
